We start at the office, where we’re kitted up with cold weather gear, and we sort out who is driving first. We chose to share a snowmobile, changing halfway, as I’ve never driven a motorbike (or manual) before and wanted to see how it was done first.

I’m possibly not the most relaxed driver – such posture!

It’s a great view whilst driving – looking straight ahead through the windscreen.

We start by going cross country, down from the “office” to a frozen lake/river, getting used to going over bumps and around trees. When we get to the river it’s awesome. The longest stretch imagineable. I’m usually pretty cautious but apparently I was going full throttle – no faster than the others, purely to stay with the rest of the pack.

At the halfway point we went cross-country again, to the top of a hill so we could admire the view, before heading back down, and onto the river again.

There was the odd spot where the river was getting a bit thin – it was late March by the time we got there, although the guide had checked the route that morning for any thin patches or cracks.

Along the way we stopped to see some ice fishermen. And to climb into an igloo.
